TUESDAY’S GONE: Lou Reed “Sweet Jane” Live in Paris 1970

Speaking of cocaine (see Manic Monday), does anybody else out there miss the late great Lou Reed? From his groundbreaking years fronting The Velvet Underground in the 60s, to his storied solo career that featured classic albums like “Transformer”, the underrated “Coney Island Baby”, and his late-career triumph “New York”, the man’s impact on music is hard to overstate. Simply put, there was no one quite like Lou, truly one of a kind, as evidenced by this classic performance of “Sweet Jane” from way back in 1973. The 70s vibes are strong here, featuring some truly Grade-A mustaches, and a downright disgustingly groovy opening jam that nearly upstages the legend himself, who takes to the stage in all his blitzed-out blond-era glory. There’s a lot to love in this gem of a performance, which captures Lou at the height of his notoriously debaucherous glam-era period. He is missed. R.I.P.
