We have a delicious selection of new releases that are readily at your fingertips. Everything from exciting returns in hip-hop to some of the best post-punk we have heard in a long time, we got it all this week.
Check out Glide’s picks for the best new music of the week below:
Grandaddy – “Jukebox App”
Blu Wav
The day has finally arrived for the latest Grandaddy album to hit the shelves and it is the folksy outing we were all hoping for. Blu Wav is out in the world and it is brimming with sentimental songwriting set to lo-fi twang that can just as easily transition into a lush synth ballad. “Jukebox App” features one of the more ambitious arrangements on the album as frontman Jason Lytle’s falsettos soar over slow-burning synth-pop.
IDLES – “Roy”
TANGK
Post-punk icon IDLES inject soulful melodies and moments of gratitude on their ambitious and stunning new album TANGK. Out today, IDLES latest album is filled with sonic risks that pay off tremendously as the band weaves new sonic territories into their already uniquely fierce sound. “Roy” is just a hint at the new IDLES, a murky ballad with crescendos that burst like fireworks only for things to quickly settle into chugging minimalism.
Laura Jane Grace – “Punk Rock in Basements”
Hole in My Head
Iconic punk frontrunner Laura Jane Grace has returned with her first solo since 2021 and it is a pure fusion of punk and folk. Hole in My Head is out today and Grace has never sounded better, her songwriting has the storytelling elements of Outlaw country while the arrangements keep things minimal and concentrated. “Punk Rock in Basements” is a nostalgic journey through Grace’s start in music as she provides vivid imagery over infectious acoustic strumming.
RiTchie – “RiTchie Valens”
Single
One-third of Injury Reserve and now one-half of By Storm, rapper/songwriter RiTchie announces his first solo album. There is no release date or title for the project yet but this self-titled lead single is a refreshing introduction to a new era of the vocalist. A hectic and beautiful arrangement sets the tone as RiTchie provides strep throat flows over vox samples and dense synth work.
Slow Hollows – “Soap”
Bullhead
The acclaimed band turned Austin Feinstein solo project, Slow Hollows is making their triumphant return in a big way. After the band broke up in 2019, Feinstein got to work on solo material and eventually landed on rejuvenating the name he worked hard to establish for Bullhead, the first Slow Hollows album since 2019. “Soap” is our latest look into the project, a dense indie rock track with otherworldly textures and that signature poetry that made Slow Hollows so exciting. Bullhead is set to be released on March 8 via Danger Collective Records.
Bill MacKay – “When I Was Here”
Locust Land
Bill MacKay has very little to prove at this point in his career yet his restless creative drive continues to force him into welcomed and new sonic territories. Locust Land, the artist’s newest release, is set to hit the shelves on May 24 and our lead single only fuels the flame of excitement. “When I Was Here” is a breezy folk track that has MacKay taking that longing feeling and flipping it into a stunning single for what is already shaping up to be a fantastic LP.
Angelo Outlaw – “Speed of Light”
Axis of Time
Philadelphia’s latest jazz sensation has provided us with another whimsical arrangement from his upcoming studio LP. Axis of Time is already promising to be a landmark jazz release in 2024 and “Speed of Light”, the album’s new single, further proves this sentiment. Melodies crash around you like the chlorine water after a cannonball as Outlaw arranges a free-flowing jazz instrumental that harkens back to the genre’s past as much as it looks toward the future. Axis of Time is set to be released on March 15
ScHoolboy Q – “Yeern 101”
BLUE LIPS
The time has finally come for ScHoolboy Q to bless us with a new LP and it is already sounding like a brand new era for the emcee. “Yeern 101” is our first official single from BLUE LIPS, Q’s first album since 2019. The lead single features neck-breaking flows set to a foggy instrumental that slowly builds in intensity as the vocals reach new tempos. BLUE LIPS is set to be released on March 1 and it is not an album you want to miss.
DIIV – “Brown Paper Bag”
Frog In Boiling Water
Another welcomed return after a few years out of the spotlight, DIIV is gearing up to release their new LP. Frog in Boiling Water is set to be released on May 24 and our lead single, “Brown Paper Bag”, is something truly special. Hauntingly beautiful vocals seem to levitate over moments of scorching guitars and trudging drums for a shoegaze-style track with otherworldly textures.
GospelbeacH – “The Dropouts (Part One and Two)”
Wiggle Your Fingers
The chameleon-style sonics of GospelbeacH are able to morph into any kind of band they feel like being today. “The Dropouts (Part One and Two)” has the band shapeshifting into breezy surf rockers for a pop-influenced track with bright textures and dreamy tones. Wiggle Your Fingers, the band’s new album is set to be released on April 26.
Hermanos Gutiérrez – “Sonido Cósmico”
Sonido Cósmico
Quickly following up on the success of their 2022 LP, instrumental duo Hermanos Gutiérrez is already back with a brand new full-length. Sonido Cósmico is set to be released on June 14 and its title track is our lead single. A cinematic arrangement lined with spurts of cosmic undertones makes for an unforgettable single.
Mick Harvey – “When We Were Beautiful & Young”
Five Ways to Say Goodbye
With a stirring ballad set to cinematic tones and epic strings, Mick Harvey released a statement piece of a lead single. “When We Were Beautiful & Young” is a gorgeous chamber pop ballad that has Harvey reminiscing about the old days via soaring melodies and intense tones. The song is our introduction to Five Ways to Say Goodbye, Harvey’s new album set to be released on May 10.
Jessica Pratt – “Life Is”
Here in the Pitch
For her first album since 2019, Jessica Pratt is gearing up to release Here in the Pitch on May 3. Our lead single “Life Is” is a gentle alt-pop ballad with minimal drums that still feel palpable as Pratt nimbly navigates the cutesy arrangement. Her songwriting is as potent as ever, hidden under the airy melodies is pure poetry that moves your soul.
