LISTEN: Neighborly Drops Heavy Brit-Styled Punk Overtones With “Small Town Kid”

Imagine standing on a beach on a gloomy morning, the rain hitting you sideways as a cool breeze splashes the droplets across your face. Now mix that with a need to escape and you have Neighbourly’s murky new single “Small Town Kid”. The minimal arrangement provides the perfect backdrop for eerie melodies, an amalgamation of influences whittled down to nothing and used as building materials for something entirely new. Neighbourly pieced together a wrapping take on modern rock and twisted with punk tones and explosive swells, “Small Town Kid” is a genre-less outing with endless charisma.

“‘Small Town Kid’ is about how small-town kids move to cities and make them better. And the angst of being young and new in town trying to get your footing,” explains the band on their new single. “So many of the coolest kids at our shows who love to grove and mosh come from small towns. And I wanted to create an anthem for them and everyone to enjoy. Approaching the EP, and inspired by Wet Leg’s debut album, I wanted to write a song with a loud chorus and then a modest verse. A stand out for me in terms of production is that we sent a couple of vocal takes through a fuzz pedal which helped Ollie and Lauren to perform with attitude”
