Golden Age Thursday: Busta Rhymes “Woo Hah!!” Live 1996

From the minute you heard his booming voice spitting cartoonish tones and rhyme schemes, it was clear Busta Rhymes would be a star. That star shone bright right of the gate with his iconic verse on A Tribe Called Quest’s “Scenario” and his early work with Leaders of The New School. Shortly after gaining recognition, Leaders of The New School disbanded and Busta was left to pursue a solo career and as they say, everything happens for a reason. Busta has achieved the coveted longevity every artist wishes for by piecing together phenomenal albums that allowed his diversity to shine. That discography continues to grow to this day with the release of his latest project BLOCKBUSTA in 2023.

For this week’s Golden Age Thursday we take it back to the beginning of what would turn into a historic career. Busta Rhymes released his solo debut The Coming in 1996, and this clip shows exactly why it was an instant success. To promote the release Busta headed overseas for a performance of “Woo Hah! Got You All In Check” on MTV UK. His sparkling attire only adds to the theatrics of his break-neck flows and braggadocious rhyming as he and members of Flipmode tear down the stage.
