Rising from the ashes of the Minutemen, Mike Watt and George Hurley soon met Ed “fROMOHIO” Crawford and valiantly carried on the spirit of their prior band by forming fIREHOSE in 1986. And while it would have been practically impossible for fIREHOSE to eclipse the Minutemen in terms of influence and excellence, they got pretty damn close at times, producing a handful of quality albums that, for the most part, managed to do their former band justice at the very least. They also kept a lot of the stylistic quirkiness and eclecticism that made the Minutemen such a dynamic band, as evidenced by this peculiar cover of Daniel Johnston’s “Walking the Cow”. The video (which is introduced by Mike Watt) is fittingly strange (not to mention kind of sad/disturbing to boot), but nonetheless perfect for a Weirdo (Watt) Wednesday of course. Enjoy.
