For a special solar eclipse edition of Manic Monday, there were certainly no shortage of selections that could potentially fit the bill. “Black Sunshine” by White Zombie comes to mind, along with “My God is the Sun” by Queens of the Stone Age, or of course “Total Eclipse” by Iron Maiden, just to name a few. But really, there could be only one winner that checks all the proverbial solar eclipse Manic Monday boxes, and that would be “Black Hole Sun” from Soundgarden. Granted, it’s not the most “manic” offering from the grunge legends (they certainly had plenty of heavier songs), but given that the very title of the song offers up the best literal description of what a solar eclipse actually looks like, it seems like the obvious choice. That, and the fact that the classic album it originated from (Superunknown) is celebrating it’s 30th birthday this year, and any excuse to pay homage to the late great Chris Cornell is always a worthwhile one, we offer up this killer performance from Soundgarden at Live Earth 2007.
