LISTEN: Holiday Ghosts Drop Twee Coated Nostalgic Pop On “Coat of Arms”

Breezy surf-rock tones welcome you to “Coat of Arms,” the new single from four-piece Holiday Ghosts. The tune takes a unique approach to guitar pop by implementing hushed melodies that still play as vibrant and impactful. By keeping things simple, Holiday Ghosts could toy with convention and emerge with a relaxed sound that evokes the feeling of leaving your house in a t-shirt after a long winter under layers of coats. The up-tempo arrangement makes the song feel danceable, while the smooth harmonies give off the sensation of relaxation, a sonic conflict with infectious results. Holiday Ghosts’ captured the ethos of surf rock and attached it to their pop tendencies for a memorable single that will have you running to hear the rest of the album.

“‘The voice in your head only whispers’ was an old line I’d written and ended up being the apex of the chorus in Coat of Arms,” explains guitarist Ben Nightingale who penned the song. “The song is about having sympathy for the stoic, realising that the stiff upper lip will eventually tremble given the right impetus, how a slight change in the wind can result in a falling façade.”
