The Bad Actors, an electric new outfit here to bathe your mundane routine in a bright orange glow. Funky indie tunes meet devil-may-care rock. Red Hot Chili Peppers, The Police, and Jimi Hendrix are found influencing pounding beats, expressive guitar lines, and pop-y ear-worm melodies. Scissor-kicks and stage tricks are the MO of “kinetic” frontman Khalil. His voltaic stage presence helped win slots at Isle of Wight, Hillsborough festival, and a Riverside festival headline with previous projects. While Jay’s laid-back drumming, matching his own personality in feel but not in introversion, forms the springboard for Khalil’s antics.
The beginning of The Bad Actors’s new single, “Roswell,” feels like witnessing the crash landing of the UFO that dons the artwork. The way nimble synths interact with the deep basslines evokes the feeling of the otherworldly greeting Earth’s terrain, a juxtaposition of sonics the band found solace in on their new single. “Roswell” is an insanely infectious performance with just enough off-kilter melodies and experimental tendencies to separate The Bad Actors from their indie rock peers. The way the hazy vocals cut through the busy guitars evokes the nostalgia of early psych-rock, while the electronic undertones keep “Roswell” feeling present. The Bad Actors crafted a single that shows off their fearless approach while keeping their risks infectious, proving their songwriting prowess and limitless potential.
“We’ve gone sci-fi in this one! This is what happens when you fall asleep watching conspiracy documentaries,” explains the band. “Through the unusual production (David Sanderson – Reverend & The Makers producer), we tried to create the atmosphere that someone really is going crazy and think the government is trying to get them.”
