LISTEN: Herbert Walker Lets The Past Rest On Their Indie Rock Anthem “I’m Not Sorry”

Herbert Walker is a five-piece band from Phoenix, Arizona, that defies easy categorization. Their sound is described as “blue-collar chamber pop,” blending elements of indie rock, pop, jazz, soul, and freak folk. Known for their introspective and textured approach to songwriting, Hebert Walker crafts music that resonates emotionally and intellectually.

The band’s new single, “I’m Not Sorry,” is a captivating storytelling track that leaves the listener enamored with the character and bouncy melodies. Herbert Walker prides themselves on being a sonic chameleon, but their message in “I’m Not Sorry” is as clear as a new wine glass. The idea of moving on fills the air upon pressing play as the story tells the tale of living with regret yet finally learning that the past can’t be changed. Herbert Walker explores these truths over a simplistic yet potent arrangement. Sharp guitar sections act as breaks between scenes while funky basslines and sturdy drum patterns fill out the verses. “I’m Not Sorry” showcases just one of the many sides of Herbert Walker. As the band details harsh truths everyone needs to hear, they craft a quaint yet urgent single with replay galore.

“It’s a kind of breakup song, be it about breaking up with a person, a job, an idea of yourself. It could be anything,” explains Francis Kelly, the band’s lead singer. “But it’s also a silly joke because it’s built within a hypothetical situation of heaving one day left to live, yet being paralyzed with indecision about what to do.”
