Melodious Gaeng, a creative project founded by two brothers, Harrison and Liam Gaeng, working 1,700 miles apart, is set to release its debut recordings: two EPs and a standalone instrumental single. The two EPs each showcase contrasting musical worlds—one explores rock, jam, and jazz influences, while the other embraces acoustic-driven bluegrass and country. In addition to these, a single with Caribbean influences adds yet another dimension to their evolving sound, making this debut a rich and diverse collection of music.

On their new EP, Melodious Twang, the duo tackles bluegrass and folksy tropes only to emerge with a refreshing take on tradition. “Change of Plans” is a rootsy highlight from the five-song project, introducing the young duo as vulnerable songwriters with a fearless gusto to tackle any sonic terrain. This time around, that terrain is built around rapid-fire, twangy melodies that glisten under the smooth vocals the same way a diamond glimmers under a beating sun. The sun, ironically, is a fitting descriptor for “Change of Plans.” The ball of fire represents the blistering passion of the guitar playing and the bright tones of the performance, while also shining a light on the lyrics of the tune. Lyrically, Melodious Gaeng attempts to accept a drastic change of plans that throws what was supposed to be a fool-proof plan off course, leaving the duo with nothing but a toothy grin and optimism. Melodious Gaeng crafts an intricate bluegrass anthem on “Change of Plans,” while introducing themselves as expansive and daring musicians.
