Short Porch returns in 2025 with their first full-length record, Hot & Ready, due out in early October. Following 2023’s EP release, The Best of… Short Porch vol.1, the band was featured on WFUV, in Far Out Magazine (UK), The Deli, the Aquarian, Bands do Bk, and FnGood music; with Far Out including “86th” on their Top 50 Songs of the Year. Short Porch was also named one of the Top 10 Hardest Working Bands in NYC by Oh My Rockness in 2024.
“Final Human” marks the band’s second single of 2025, and it is a beautifully dark introduction to the intricacies that make Short Porch such an exciting punk band. Sonically, the listener gets blissfully lost in the simplistic, intoxicating arrangement that thrives on eerie, nimble guitar riffs and thudding drums. This concoction of lo-fi warmth acts as the perfect canvas for the distant yet cartoonishly passionate vocal performance that delivers the spellbinding story of “Final Human.” The single follows a person preparing for the end of the world as the character frantically gathers materials at a pace that is emphasized by the face-melting guitar sections. Throughout the song, we hear this character become obsessed with survival. That urgency is beautifully transcribed through Short Porch’s unwavering punk prowess and ability to shapeshift to fit the mood of the character. With a debut album on the horizon, “Final Human” introduces Short Porch as forward-thinking members of modern punk, unafraid to grab at lofty visions and make them into something tangible.
