Sick of It All is a remarkable alumnus of the New York City hardcore movement for several reasons. One is the longevity they’ve enjoyed, touring up until the summer of 2024, when frontman Lou Koller announced his diagnosis with an esophageal tumor, and releasing fresh LPs up until 2018. Another reason, and possibly the most impressive one, is the bond between the band members. Outside of bassist Craig Setari, and a brief stint away from Armand Majidi between 1989 and 1991, the core of Sick of It All has stuck together since Setari joined in 1993. A punk band with this much longevity and chemistry deserves all the praise that comes its way, which brings us to this week’s Golden Age Thursday.
For this week, we have footage of Sick of It All traveling across the country to California to celebrate the release of their iconic debut album, 1989’s Blood, Sweat and No Tears. The footage, captured in the summer of ‘89, shows the duality of the band as the soft-spoken lead introduces the band before they launch into the growling, ferocious hardcore punk that made them such an exciting live band. You can watch the thirty-minute concert below.
