“GASP’D,” or ‘Go Away, Sleep Paralysis Demon,’ is the introduction track to A.R.T’s fresh LP, and doubles as a welcoming committee for those who are unfamiliar with the band’s raw, cartoonish experimentation. The tune, which was also the final single leading up to the release of SLAP! BANG! WALLOP! finds the band trying to balance a restless energy with the need to replenish their social battery, leaving them in a state of emotional paralysis. Although “GASP’D” is far from stagnant. A blaring horn melody kicks in, dancing with the throat-scratching vocals and lively guitar riffs, creating a colorful arrangement with unpredictable tendencies.
