LISTEN: Hayes Noble Creates Alt-Pop Bliss With Fuzzy Textures On “Seven”

Hailing from northwest Illinois, now residing in Spokane, Washington, Hayes Noble has built a solid following since home-recording his first demos in 2021. Relentless DIY touring has seen him play nearly 200 shows across 25 states in just over two years. Noble has released two LPs since this project started, 2023’s Head Cleaner and 2024’s As It Was, As We Were, both of which featured stunning, fuzzy DIY punk. With the touring schedule of a veteran and the ethos of his DIY forefathers, Noble prepares the release of Never Blue, his third LP set to be released on October 17.

“Seven” is the lead single from Noble’s anticipated new LP. Noble sounds rejuvenated on his latest release as the artist leaves his punk roots behind and replaces his fuzzed-out tendencies with sinfully sweet, alt-pop. The lo-fi piano ballad features thudding keys that cover the warm vocal performance with a lovely edge, creating an immersive new side of Noble’s artistry. While the aggression of Noble’s past release becomes subdued on “Seven,” his DIY nature still keeps hold of his spirit. The artist’s signature fuzzy textures are just as palpable, but the melodies have softened, and the hazy textures have cleared up just enough for Noble’s croons to echo throughout the tune. With a new album around the corner, Noble introduces the world to a more gentle side of his creativity with “Seven.”

“I wanted to try something a little bit different with ‘Seven’ compared to my other stuff. I first recorded the guitar track, essentially the base of the song. Then I messed around with working keys in, sort of echoing the melody until I landed on something nice,” explains Noble. “The end result gives the effect of the keys being the foreground instruments and the guitar sitting more towards the back of the mix. I think it ended up sounding kind of cool.”
