Petey USA makes a sort of nervous indie-rock that’s equal parts gut punch and group hug. Born in Chicago and now living in Los Angeles, he describes himself as being “from the Midwest and often uncomfortable.” It’s a fitting introduction for an artist whose songs strike a balance between fresh-air catharsis and witty self-awareness; musically, it all lands somewhere between The Mountain Goats, Modest Mouse, The Wonder Years, and Weezer.

“Anything In Between,” the latest single from Petey, arrives just months after the artist released The Yips, the latest addition to his growing discography. The new single contains a frenetic energy that rips open the speakers and your soul, leaving nothing between the listener and Petey. Despite the throat-scratching yelps and stadium-sized arrangement, the artist is able to keep “Anything In Between” intimate and personal, a testament to the artist’s songwriting. Through vivid imagery, Petey explores the harsh realities of isolation and the harrowing task of emerging from a period of solitude. The artist turns these difficulties into an uplifting anthem on “Anything In Between,” the latest stepping stone toward a complete artistic evolution for Petey.
