Salt Lake City-based Indie singer-songwriter Josaleigh Pollett will return on October 28th with “Radio Player,” an electronics-infused and Poltergeist-inspired new single. Here, Pollett is reunited with long-time collaborator Jordan Watko (Crowd Shy) for the first time since Jordan’s relocation to Japan, making this their first recorded output since 2023’s highly acclaimed In the Garden, By the Weeds.
Despite the distance between them, the pair opted to make their first cross-continent collaboration more ambitious and exploratory than what came before. Initially finding acclaim in 2020 with their No Woman Is the Sea album, before sharing bills with St. Vincent, Torres, Deep Sea Diver, DeVotchKa, Mini Trees, Hibou, and Kilby Block Party, “Radio Player” sees their sound continue to evolve.
Pollett makes a triumphant return with the hazy, psychedelia-infused, ever-evolving piece of electro-indie rock that welcomes the artist back into the genre-defying ranks of contemporary music. With a subtle ambiance that allows the nuances of the artist’s lyrics to breathe, and an arrangement that morphs into acoustic bliss and cinematic electronics, “Radio Player” is an immersive listen from an artist who has landed on something they can call their own. Pollett’s poetic vocal presence guides you through the twisted arrangement, holding your hand through nimble drums and vague yet potent lyricism. Pollett delivers the narrative of “Radio Player” through quick glimpses into the hero’s perspective, as they battle with demons that only seem to arise when the sun goes down. “Radio Player” reintroduces Pollett as a forward-thinking musician whose vulnerability allows their lofty sonic visions to serve as accompaniment to their raw emotions.
“‘Radio Player’ is a song about memory and fear and the routes we take to protect ourselves,” explains Pollett. “A pink light flickers on in a hallway in a dream and beckons the listener through, leaving them covered in ectoplasm with a head full of static five minutes later.”
