By the time Jethro Tull released “Lap of Luxury” off Under Wraps in 1984,, they were an unlikely fit for MTV. This was the era of glossy pop, hair metal theatrics, and tightly packaged visuals—while Tull had built their reputation on folk-tinged prog, long-form compositions, and Ian Anderson’s eccentric flute-driven stage presence. Did Tull really need to do this? Well, yes, and the video is forgettable but at the same time memorable, with its bizarre plot, and somehow Ian Anderson just fits the role of the mysterious lead frontman even more in an “acting” role…
