50 Years Ago Today: Genesis Release ‘Nursery Cryme’ LP – Its First With Hackett & Collins

50 years ago today (11/12/71), Genesis released Nursery Cryme their third studio album and first with Phil Collins on drums and Steve Hackett on guitar. This album featured many of the songs that would help define the prog rockers during its Peter Gabriel era including “The Musical Box,” “The Return of The Giant Hogweed,” and “The Fountain of Salmacis.” While each album following Nursery Cryme would outdo the previous in terms of compositional ambition, Nursery Cryme is no slouch and its seven songs stand up to most everything in the band’s diverse catalog.
