Leland Whitty of BADBADNOTGOOD is stepping out on his own for his solo debut album, Anyhow which is due out on December 9 on Innovative Leisure. The multi-instrumentalist has been recording with the jazz band since 2015 when he joined them during the recording sessions for their collaborative album with Ghostface Killah, Sour Soul. Besides some help from fellow band members, Anyhow is entirely produced, written, and performed by Whitty himself. Notably, the album also features contributions from Whitty’s older brother who the artist credits as a massive musical influence.

The album announcement is accompanied by his new single “Awake”, a beautifully crafted instrumental piece. Whitty uses the same spacious grooves made famous by BADBADNOTGOOD but adds his own touch through unforgettable melodies and masterful song structure. The track plays on the improvisational feeling of jazz while showcasing the many instruments that come naturally to Whitty, creating an organic and mesmerizing track that feels cinematic.
