Belfast musician Dom Martin took the UK Blues scene by storm in 2019. His jaw-dropping, natural sounding, and unschooled skill on acoustic guitar, matched with an authentic ‘Belfast Blues’ voice, drew comparisons to John Martyn and Rory Gallagher, with nods to Van Morrison and Foy Vance. In addition to being an acoustic guitar star, Dom is equally adept on electric guitar, showcasing his talents with his power trio.

Dom’s latest effort, Buried in the Hail (out September 22nd via 40 Below Records)was co-produced by Dom and Chris O’Brien & Graham Murphy and mixed at Golden Egg Studios in Dublin, Ireland. Joining him in the studio were bassist Ben Graham and drummer Jonny McIlroy.

Today Glide is excited to premiere the video for the standout track “Belfast Blues,” which feels ironically more akin to the American blues of the North Mississippi Hill Country alongside the more contemporary, rock-driven stylings of artists like Gary Clark Jr. Dom lays down some insanely mean slide guitar that keeps this driving tune moving forward while also speaking lyrically to his home town. What makes this especially interesting and invigorating is the way Dom channels both traditional American influences while also putting his own UK spin on the music that makes the song sit in its own category. Regardless, this is a guitar-driven tune that carries a boatload of energy, and one can only imagine him tearing it up onstage.

Dom describes the inspiration behind the tune:

I’m a Belfast native. I love the place and the people. Just about every family has lost blood on the streets here yet it’s still a great place to witness. As we’d say there’s some characters about so there is! The song is about the days I spent playing the pubs and clubs in Northern Ireland. Getting in fights, fires, getting robbed, getting drunk and beaten and just generally misbehaving. Being an animal. I was a different person back then. I’ve become a lot younger now than I was back then and am finally living a life.”
