LISTEN: Steve Stout Drops Lo-Fi Anthemic Gold With “Some Folks”

Give your fireplace a break during this dreadful winter and allow Steve Stout’s latest single to warm you up. “Some Folks” is a lo-fi folk anthem with grainy textures and welcoming melodies. Stout navigates infectious guitar tones as he delivers moving lyrics that feel relatable yet otherworldly when delivered by the artist’s low vocals. The way “Some Folks” can stay effortlessly relaxed while sounding vibrant is a testament to Stout’s craft.

“I have been making a lot of marketing videos on my Instagram for cool gear companies lately and usually make cool little one-minute jams,” Explains Stout about the origins of “Some Folks”. “I had the thought to sing through the Vox AC15 I was demo-ing and loved the vibe so much that I kept it in the back of my mind I’d write a second verse and chorus at some point and finish this tune-up. I was sick when I recorded the first verse and chorus and kinda loved how my voice sounded haha. I joked that I’d have to wait til I was sick again to sing the rest and lo and behold the daycare germs from our two-year-old provided! Six months later I finally wrote the rest of the tune and added the instrumental stuff at the end and here we are! Definitely for fans of Mac Demarco, but with a strokesier vocal”

Self/produced/mixed DIY Indie/Psych/Folk. Sunday Stars, Stout’s 2nd full-length solo record, is out on ALLSWELL RECORDS on June 30. The second single ‘Boy With A Point Of View’ is out now. Stout is Also one-half of ØZWALD, Lifehouse guitarist, Lost Beach collaborator, and  Former Blondfire guitarist.

“I really wanted ‘Sunday Stars’ to be a bigger and bolder version of the sound I started on my first record Dairy Made.” Explains Stout. “Leaning a little less lofi and a bit more into a place that fits in with bands like Fruit Bats, Stephen Malkmus and the Jicks, Kurt Vile, etc. These songs are mostly super personal and about life as a mostly ex-rocker, new folker, new dad living in Nashville but still acting like I’m in Los Angeles. I’ll get one of these cacti to stay alive eventually…”
