Today, The Hard Quartet, featuring Stephen Malkmus, Matt Sweeney, Jim White, and Emmett Kelly, has announced its eponymous debut album, which will be released on October 4th on Matador Records. The young band of older artists’ new single and video, ‘Rio’s Song’, is out today and can be seen/heard below.

“The “Rio’s Song” video is The Hard Quartet’s homage to street rock in the hot afternoon & clowning around with lifer friends in downtown New York City. Director Jared Sherbert shot it guerrilla style on St Mark’s Place and in The International Bar on July 15 2024. It features local NYC artists, musicians, activists, skaters and icons who are dear to the band” – The Hard Quartet

The Hard Quartet will play debut shows in New York, Los Angeles and London in October. A list of upcoming dates can be found below. The band will be touring extensively in 2025.
