LISTEN: Jade Coloured Glasses Blend Dense Shoegaze With Jangly Indie Rock On “Loverblind”

Jade Coloured Glasses is a Singaporean Indie band that was formed (literally) by accident. The members have quite a wide range of musical tastes, from atmospheric shoegaze and melodic Midwest emo to Taiwanese indie rock and classic hard rock. Combining these tastes and following in the tradition of bedroom pop and indie musicians everywhere, Jade Coloured Glasses self-recorded and produced their first EP, The Slow Death of Lives Never Lived, themselves.

When it comes to shoegaze, there are specific identifiers to look for. Jade Coloured Glasses twists these expectations into a new reality on their phenomenally complex and welcoming “Loverblind” single. The dense arrangement provides a solid foundation for the acrobatic harmonies, immediately throwing the listener into an enticing sonic conflict. You can hear the shoegaze influences in the lush textures, but you quickly realize “Loverblind” is far from your average tune. The way the band is able to blend their influences into something so refreshing sounding quickly separates Jade Coloured Glasses from their peers. More so, it introduces us to the unique sound the young band has crafted for themselves. Jangly pop melodies provide a bit of levity to the thrashing guitar tones and thudding drums, giving the song an unpredictable structure that will have you sprinting back for another listen. Another infectious, nuanced element is revealed in every listen of “Loverblind.” Jade Coloured Glasses turns their creative freedom into a palpable energy with a complex anthem that begs to be put on repeat.

“This song is a hazy representation of how mixed feelings and sentimental fog can cloud one’s judgment about who one’s lover really is,” explains the band.
