Weirdo Wednesday: Led Zeppelin’s Live Aid “Reunion” Comes Up Uneven

Rounding out our salute to Live Aid for today’s Weirdo Wednesday, we’re spotlighting the notoriously choppy Led Zeppelin “reunion,” which took place at JFK Stadium in Philly. Joined by Phil Collins (of all people) on drums, Plant would later describe this performance as “a fucking atrocity for us … It made us look like loonies.” That may be a little harsh, but between his subpar/hoarse vocals, Jimmy Page performing kind of hammered with his out-of-tune guitar, coupled with a clueless/half-hazard performance from Mr. Collins no doubt had John Bonham rolling in his grave, it all added up to a remarkably uneven and disappointing performance on the whole. No wonder it was so hard to conjure up subsequent Led Zeppelin “reunions” after this debacle. Bare witness to the weirdness:
