Sad Dad Autumn is a rising Seattle-based sister trio (ages 11–20) blending dark folk, indie rock, and cinematic soundscapes. Known for their haunting harmonies and raw lyricism, they channel the Northwest’s moody spirit into music that feels both timeless and otherworldly. Rooted in a multi-generational musical household, the band crafts songs that explore grief, myth, and memory with striking authenticity. Their debut single, “Alpha Cas,” marks the beginning of a bold sonic journey, leading up to their full-length album, The Great Dying, set for release in November 2025.
As we inch closer to the brisk breezes of fall and the release of Sad Dad Autumn’s debut record, the band checks the temperature outside with “Alpha Cas.” The lead single from their debut record is a moody, atmospheric piece of post-rock that beautifully deconstructs the genre’s tropes and melts the remains over subtle nods to shoegaze and wistful vocals. The slow-burning sonic tension of “Alpha Cas” immerses the listener in the band’s perspective, as they carefully detail their intricacies, meticulously building to an emotional crescendo. This swelling comes like a wave in slow-motion, giving the listener all the time in the world to evade its crash, but keeping them transfixed on the natural beauty of it all. “Alpha Cas” establishes Sad Dad Autumn as fearless musicians searching for something bigger than themselves, and if The Great Dying is as poetically moving as its lead single, they just might have found it.
“Lily has always been obsessed with the story of Cassiopeia and Andromeda, and we wanted to capture that myth by starting in dark, earthy folk before unfolding like a Greek sci-fi dream,” explains the band. “‘Alpha Cas’ is about betrayal and giving in to your fate—a lament that turns into a star-lit storm of sound.”
