New Years Eve at The Sea of Dreams
New Years Eve represents a turning point where one can reflect on the multitude of events of the past, immerse themselves in the bounty and beauty of the present, while contemplating the unknown path for the future. For this celebration of all things past present and future the String Cheese incident and Madison House, have […]

Portland Waterfront Blues Festival feat: Dr. John, John Hiatt, Little Feat, Dumpstaphunk & Buckwheat Zydeco : 6/29 -7/4/06 Portland, OR
Over the Fourth of July weekend, Portland Oregon was a gracious host to the Waterfront Blues Festival. In its 18th year of existence, this ever-expanding festival seems to annually grow in both numbers of attendees and the name power of its headliners. With a beautiful setting that is shadowed one side by Portland
Devin Phillips – Portland via New Orleans
here is a harmonic rumbling emanating from Portland Oregon, and if you listen quite closely you might hear the sweet sound of a sax floating through the air. Devin Phillips is making quite a splash on the Portland music scene, and his road to P-town is an epic tale of devastation and rebirth. Almost as amazing as is his musical chops on his tenor and soprano saxophone, is the tumultuous path that led him here.
Umphrey’s McGee : Music Millennium & Roseland Theatre, Portland, OR 4/08/2006
In support of their new album Safety in Numbers, Umphrey’s McGee has hit the road to criss-cross across the U.S. as well as parts of Europe and Canada this spring to spread their musical message. On this odyssey they made a brief swing through Oregon to play an in store performance at Music Millennium, as well as a full two set show at the Roseland Theater. Both shows were well received, and although they were not the best Umph’s performances I have ever seen, they still contained glimpses of brilliance that show why they are one of the strongest jam-rock bands.
Keller WIlliams & The Keels: Grass
The one-man minstrel Keller Williams has teamed up with his good friends Larry and Jenny Keel to release Grass, a fun loving and light-hearted album that features their fine collaborative cohesion. This album is humorous, easily digestible, and just plain old fun listening. Although this album is not going to be winning any Grammy awards for best album, its selection of choice originals and reworked covers are well worth the price.
Greyboy Allstars : Crystal Ballroom – Portland, OR 3/10/2006
In a time where, there are more self-proclaimed “All-star” bands out there then actual stars in the industry, this one lives up to the billing and then some. The Greyboy Allstars are truly a celestial combination of musicians, that have truly earned the moniker “Allstars” In one jam they can tickle your mind with harmonically layered tunes that the most cerebral focused music fans out there would be attracted to, while they can simultaneously add raw groovin’ nastiness in the same song for those whose bodies just need to funk out
Hot Buttered Rum / New Monsoon : Wonder Ballroom, Portland OR 1/28/2006
The absolute highlight of this night from either band was the monstrous Pink Floyd masterpiece of "Echoes" that closed the set.
Big Island Shindig : Hawthorne Theater – Portland, OR 12/31/2005
Having ventured more than 3000 miles for my last New Year’s extravaganza, I decided a more local approach would suit the bill to ring in 2006. By the night’s end I was in no way disappointed, and in fact I was pleasantly surprised. I live in the heart of a wonderful city (Portland Oregon) and spent my New Years Eve traversing three separate gathering/parties and dancing at one joyous local concert that matched up two local musical staples Asbury Park and Big Island Shindig.
Steve Kimock Band 11/16/2005: Crystal Ballroom – Portland, OR

Beastie Boys: Solid Gold Hits
This album is a walk down memory lane from the birth and early adolescence of rap and hip-hop, to the modern mind-melting compositions that are quickly becoming staples of my play lists.
Yonder Mountain String Band: Roseland Theatre, Portland OR 10/7-8/2005
Portland Oregon loves the Yonder Mountain String band, which was clearly evident in listening to the adoring cheers heard after each song.
Horning’s Hideout : North Plains, OR 8/5-8/7/05
Starting in 2000 the String Cheese Incident, Peak Experience, and of course Bob Horning, have teamed up to create a communal paradise at the now legendary Horning
High Sierra Music Festival: Quincy, CA June 30-July 3, 2005
Happy anniversary High Sierra Music Festival! This year marks the fifteenth anniversary of the best-managed, most enjoyable, and just plain old greatest festival on the planet. The beauty of this festival is there are so many diverse musical styles showcased throughout the weekend, that regardless of one
Hitting the High Notes: 2004 High Sierra Music Festival: Directed by Jason Koornick
This DVD contains a peek inside both the performer’s experience, with interesting interviews on subjects that vary from the environmental impact of biodesial busses, to the role of politics in music, as well as fan based perspectives, with conversations on their undying music appreciation and infatuation with particular performers.
