On February 22, The Low Anthem will release Smart Flesh, the self-produced follow up to their critically lauded 2009 release Oh My God, Charlie Darwin on Nonesuch. The majority of Smart Flesh’s eleven tracks were recorded in a cavernous, vacant pasta sauce factory in Central Falls, RI. Additional tracking was done in a Providence garage, […]

Mix Tape: Do You Like To Laugh? Pt. 3
It’s been awhile since we’ve done this, but I thought we’d take a break from the norm and offer a mix tape dedicated to great comedy, because who doesn’t like to get their laugh on? So let’s listen to some of these great indie-comics. Just a warning – most of this stuff is slightly NSFW… […]

The Mike Gordon Band’s tour is in full swing as the group incorporates new covers and originals into the repertoire. At Wednesday night’s gig in Seattle, Cactus and his band mates debuted their version of The Outdoor Type by The Lemonheads – not exactly a group you’d expect Gordon to cover, but that’s what we […]

The Black Crowes: Best Buy Theater, New York, NY 11/5/10
Hopefully the dreaded H word doesn’t last too long for The Black Crowes as they have never been more “on” over their entire career. With progressive albums and electrifying tours, it is a shame they are putting it to bed, here’s wishing also that Luther Dickinson keeps bringing his magic on that day when the Crowes do come back to roost.
B List: 10 Great Places to Stream Live Music
Over the past four years, we’ve pointed you in the direction of many live music downloads through our MP3 Boot Camp and Grousing The Aisles columns as well as within our various link dump columns. Many of our readers peruse Hidden Track from work – and lately through mobile devices – and we realize that sometimes downloading live sets isn’t an option. For those situations a stream of these live recordings works much better.

Last week, we kicked off a new series called Irregular Streams in which we highlight a listen-able stream you might not have found on your own. The new column got us thinking about all the sources for live music streams out there and for this week’s B List we’ve prepared a list of our ten favorite sources for these streams. Here’s what we came up with…
10. PanicStream
While there’s no denying that PanicStream.com is focused on the music of Widespread Panic, over the past 12 months or so the amount of shows from other artists that you can stream through the site has grown dramatically. Meanwhile, PS’s live Widespread Panic collection continues to expand and even has some complete years worth of shows available to stream.

Phish Fall Tour 2010 Survey Results
During a relatively brief tour of just 15 shows, Phish packed many highlights into the run that concluded in Atlantic City on Halloween. Phish kicked off the tour with a festival show in Texas, three consecutive nights in Colorado, two in the South, six at old school locations in the Northeast and a triumphant three night run in Atlantic City. The buzz throughout the last week or so of the tour was palpable with several shows destined to go down in the history books and be re-visited many times for years to come.
So what did everyone think?
[CLICK ON IMAGES FOR FULL-SIZE VIEW]
In the most lopsided of question of not only this survey, but all the prior ones as well, the resounding majority certainly felt that this was THE tour since the reunion. As Phish nears the 100 show mark since Hampton, it’s hard to argue that several of these fifteen were not among the best.
Overall Grade for Fall Tour
Solid again, with a much larger percentage of fans scoring a B+ or higher than previous tours. Only 10% scored a B or lower. For three of you, we’ll catch you at the next WSP show.

Video: The Bad Plus – Everybody Wants to Rule The World (Live in Sydney)
American jazz trio The Bad Plus have a way of completely deconstructing covers, while still maintaining the essence of the song that attracted us to it in the first place. For an example, check out this professionally shot video of The Bad Plus covering Everybody Wants to Rule The World by Tears For Fears at a recent […]

Soulive: Higher Ground Ballroom, South Burlington, VT 10/29 & 10/30/10
The best moments of Soulive’s last visit to Vermont, in April of ‘08 occurred when the core trio had the stage to themselves and ripped it up without interruption for over thirty minutes, reminding what a powerful band they’d become in their (close to a) decade together. The high points of the Halloween run at Higher Ground exceeded even that altitude.
No Redeeming Social Value – Stage Dives and High Fives
They are devastatingly serious when it comes to their ass kicking hardcore punk style and hysterically uproarious with their song writing; they are the one and only No Redeeming Social Value from New York City. In the tough guy/beat down world of Hardcore Metal NRSV’s style is a welcomed change of pace, never taking themselves to seriously, but constantly putting everything they have into their explosive style of playing; blood sweat and beers included.
Daniel Lanois – Soul Mining: A Musical Life
Soul Mining is Daniel Lanois’ story, but it’s chock full of the people he’s shared his life with. Yes, there are chapters about his studio experiences with folks such as the Neville Brothers, Emmylou Harris, U2, and Bob Dylan, but he also acknowledges the people he feels shaped him into who he is.
