40 Years Ago Today- Sammy Hagar Makes Live Debut As Van Halen Lead Singer

40 years ago today (5/27/86), Sammy Hagar made his first appearance as Van Halen’s lead singer when the group began their tour in Shreveport, LA. Replacing the wildly charismatic David Lee Roth, Van Halen shifted gears in this “Van Hagar’ era and went for more keyboard-based, polished songs like “Dreams,” “Love Walks In,” and “Why Can’t This Be Love” off of their 1986 album 5150. Although footage of the Shreveport show is available, we can check out some live video months later in New Haven, CT, on the 5150 tour.
