Dan Craig: Skin Grows Thin

[rating=4.00]

Denver, Colorado, which has also recently brought us the lovely and talented Jessica Sonner, is now also ready to unleash another superb singer-songwriter, Dan Craig.  Sure, Skin Grows Thin isn’t Craig’s debut, but it’s bound to be the album that you’ll be talking about for years to come, mostly because of its introspective blend of folk-rock and Craig’s rangy vocals.

“No Rain Tonight” and “Breaking Hearts Tonight” are probably the tracks that will gain a mass appeal, which is fine, but their catchiness shouldn’t overshadow the depth of this album – which is really what reveals the truth: Craig’s masterful talents as a songwriter.  The best comparison here, if you must, is Ray LaMontagne; although I don’t get the sense that Craig is as cleverly tortured, he just sounds passionate about every word that he sings, which makes this album a great success.
