“The British singer-songwriter Billy Bragg, and Jeff Tweedy and Jay Bennett of the American band Wilco added music to 30 of Mr. Guthrie’s lyrics and released them on the acclaimed Mermaid Avenue albums in 1998 and 2000. Mr. Bragg and Wilco will perform together for the first time in seven years on Oct. 17 at Webster Hall in New York, at a benefit show to combat Huntington’s disease, the illness that ended Mr. Guthrie’s career in the mid-1950s.” [New York Times]

Don’t think that 10/17 is right since Wilco is scheduled to be in Detroit that night. Maybe 11/17?? Regardless I will be at that show I love those 2 albums.
Good eye, SD…I’ll see what I can dig up…do the same.
Billy Bragg’s site has him listed as playing Webster Hall on 10/17 – so not sure what’s up with this show.
Hmm…well, good sleuthing so far. We’ll see what happens. Maybe Jayson Blair wrote that story for the Times.
I seriously doubt this gig is not going to happen. False alarm. Enjoy Billy Bragg. As much as I love Mermaid Avenue, if Wilco’s not showing neither will I. I guess I’ll be at Mickey Hart at the Highline instead. Hopefully, he’s back to rapping Fire!
Latest update (from my inside source) is that this is definitely happening, but the date has not been confirmed.
Well, it’s a good thing they didn’t let that unconfirmed date out of the bag to the English-speaking world’s most-read Sunday newspaper or anything.
