With a new album, the band that began as a side project announces its first tour in 10 years, promising nothing but honest-to-god live music.
That’s live as in everything you hear will be played right before your very eyes.
Or, as drummer / co-founder Chris Frantz said: “The band consists of seven players, is smoking hot and completely live. We don’t use any sequencers or backing tapes at all.”
Formed by drummer Frantz with his wife, bassist Tina Weymouth, in 1981 as a side project to the couple’s other band, The Talking Heads, Tom Tom Club began life as a successful dance band whose recordings have since been sampled by an almost endless list of artists ranging from Tupac Shakur to Mariah Carey to Grandmaster Flash.
The tour begins with two nights in Fairfield, Conn., at Stage One, plays Washington, D.C., at the Rock And Roll Hotel Sept. 23, stops at Cleveland’s Grog Shop Sept. 24 and hits Cincinnati’s Midpoint Music Festival Sept. 25. Other destinations include Nashville, St. Louis, Chicago, Toledo, Toronto, Montreal, Boston, San Diego, Los Angeles and San Francisco.
