Dropkick Murphys Playing Two Fenway Park Shows

"Tessie" has been a fan-favorite at Fenway Park for years, becoming the anthem for the Red Sox as they ended the so-called curse by winning the World Series in 2004.

The song can usually be heard over the loudspeakers and all around the park on game days, but on Sept. 8 and 9, Dropkick Murphys will bring it to fans live, staging a show at Fenway each evening.

The band will be perched on a stage hovering over the bullpens in right field, with fans seated in the bleachers and grandstand sections. Grammy-winning musician John Legend played with the "bleacher theater" setup at Fenway in 2007, as did the Landmark Orchestra in 2010.

The Dropkick Murphys’ "I’m Shipping Up to Boston" has been the musical introduction for Red Sox closer Jonathan Papelbon since 2007.

The Mighty Mighty Bosstones will be opening on both nights, with a portion of ticket proceeds benefiting the Massachusetts 9/11 Fund, which helps support families of September 11 victims throughout the state.

Tickets go on sale at noon ET on Thursday, July 7.
