It’s been a while since Mia Dyson‘s last full-length studio album Struck Down, and while her Dave Stewart-produced single "You and Me" helped bridge that gap, it’s still not the same as getting an entire album of new material from the Australian singer-songwriter.

Over the past few years, Dyson has been playing with the pop/Americana group Hotels & Highways, comprised of three individual songwriters: Lisa Piccirillo, Patrick Thomas and Erin "Sid" Sidney, and they’ve covered a lot of the US together while on tour. This musical connection led to Dyson recruiting them to help record her brand new album, The Moment, which is slated for release in August 2012.

Dyson recently launched a PledgeMusic campaign to help fund the new album and its eventual distribution, which passed its goal in less than ten days. As it stands, the campaign is at 164%, and a portion of proceeds goes to support My Sisters Inc– a charity serving incarcerated survivors of domestic violence through education, recovery and support. To preview The Moment, Mia Dyson recently dropped the lead single "Tell Me" via a sampler with The Co-Op, which features fantastic new music from Hotels & Highways and its members, as well as Zac Clark, The Pullmen and ATW. To download the sampler, check out the widget below.

"Tell Me" is classic Dyson, in that it features a beautifully restrained electric guitar, emoting just as much as her forceful rasp of a voice. But here, we get a taste of Dyson’s gorgeous higher register on the chorus, and with Lee Pardini’s well-placed organ, Sidney’s delightful drumming  and Piccirillo’s thoughtful backing vocals, it creates an inviting fabric of blues-infused rock-and-roll. It’s definitely a career highlight for Dyson, and is a perfect introduction to her aesthetic. If you’re a fan of Bonnie Raitt, Miles Davis, Muddy Waters or Dolly Parton, this is an essential listen.
