The Grateful Dead has always been the opposite of pitchmen – going for the long-winded vs the accessible. In fact, it wasn’t till 1987’s “Touch of Grey” where they got any type of significant mainstream radio of MTV play.
The band in conjunction with Nike will be releasing “Nike SB Dunk Low Grateful Dead” sneakers. Set in three colorways, the shoe playfully features bear-inspired detailing, such as a faux-fur and suede upper, a frayed Nike Swoosh mimicking the bears’ collars and an image of the bear on the tongue. Check out their tongue in cheek playful pitch at something as bonus material in the ’80s, yet revived to garner some sneaker hype today. Phil, Jerry, Bob, Bill and Brent all look a bit tipsy, but where’s Mickey? The sweepstakes for the shoes start on Tuesday (7/21) at Noon EST on Dead.net.
