Peter Green – British Blues Guitar Purveyor, Fleetwood Mac Co-Founder Dies at 73

Today we mourn the loss of Peter Green who died in his sleep today (7/25) at the age of 73. As arguably the finest ambassador of blues guitar that Britain has ever produced and one of the most sensitively toned players of all time, Green helped define the sound and feel of British blues

Green first replaced Eric Clapton in John Mayall’s Bluesbreakers, then went on to form Fleetwood Mac (Peter Green’s Fleetwood Mac to start) along with Mick Fleetwood and John McVie. Green’s songs, such as “Albatross”, “Black Magic Woman”, “Oh Well”, and “Man of the World”, have been adopted by a variety of musicians and have a legacy all their own. Following an ill-fated drug excursion in 1970, Green became transformed into a long steady mental decline and he has never since regained his prominence. Meanwhile, Fleetwood Mac, would later reinvent themselves in the 70s with various band members and would become one of rock’s all-time biggest selling bands alongside The Eagles, and Pink Floyd.
