VIDEO PREMIERE: Seattle Great Danny Newcomb Showers Acoustic Wisdom Via “Chase The Dark”

Rock and roll resumes can be taken in varying degrees, but when you come across a Seattle veteran who has been in bands with various Emerald City greats, one has to tip their hat. Take Danny Newcomb who has meandered and rocked his way from project to project, only to gain newfound sounds to his talents, while remaining one of the Pacific Northwest’s most respected musicians. Take a look at this very impressive musical bio below

Shadow (1981 – 1985), featuring Mike McCready (Pearl Jam) and Rick Friel (Jodie Watts). Goodness (1993 – 1999) featuring Carrie Akre (Hammerbox), The Rockfords (1999 – 2006) featuring McCready and Nancy Wilson (Heart). Sugarmakers (2015 – Current – on hiatus) featuring Eric Eagle (Jesse Sykes)Jason Staczek (Mark Lanegan), Ryan Burns (Jimmy Page, Wayne Horvitz)Tim Dejulio (Stereo Embers)Mike Musburger (Supersuckers), and Jeremy Lightfoot (Vance Joy).

The recent release of Danny Newcomb’s Mackerel Sky is a fine portrait of an artist come full circle. His refined strength and acoustic wisdom portray shades of Dwight Tilley, Nick Lowe and Soul Asylum. Glide is proud to release the video for “Chase The Dark” (below), where Newcomb offers a melancholy folk keeper mixed with shades of stunning singer-songwriter minimalism.

“Chase the Dark” was written in the Fall before the virus hit and was about a friend of mine who was in a struggle with a terminal illness,” says Newcom. “The central idea that playing life safe is a form of insanity was an idea that had found me unhappily, like a rusty nail in an old sneaker.  In the song it plays as a discussion between two potential lovers who meet at a party and leave unresolved. Now, in 2020 with the bars closed, the buses empty and a new normal that is lonely I think chasing the Dark fits well with following your heart.”
