The final regularly aired edition of the Grateful Dead’s weekly archival series Shakedown Stream features the previously unreleased footage from the band’s 7/21/90 performance at the World Music Theater in Tinley Paark, IL outside of Chicago.
This show, which marked the opening night of the Dead’s final stop on their summer tour – as well as one of Brent Mydland’s final concerts – is a typically hot affair for this era, with strong takes on classics such as “Just a Little Light”, “Bird Song”, “Scarlet Begonias”, & “Dear Mr. Fantasy.”
As previously mentioned, this episode marks the final regular airing of the weekly video offering which debuted in April of 2020 as a response to the initial COVID-related quarantine. While episodes will still be released in the future, the timing will be more sporadic, with the next offering – the Dead’s infamous 1972 Sunshine Daydream tapes from Veneta, OR – to be shown on August 27th.
The full concert, as well as a very special pre-show Q&A session with noted Dead experts David Lemieux & Gary Lambert and featuring Bob Weir can be seen on the Dead’s official YouTube channel this Friday, 8/7/20, at 8pm EST.
