VIDEO PREMIERE: Mary Bue Shares Breezy Alt-Pop Tune “The World is Your Lover”

Originally from Duluth, MN, Mary Bue is a songwriter, Nada yogi, traveler, runner, vegan, retreat guide, music + yoga teacher based out of Minneapolis, often roaming this beautiful world. Just named Best Songwriter of 2020 by City Pages, Minneapolis folk/pop songwriter Mary Bue releases The World is Your Lover on August 21 and will be available in vinyl, CD and digital formats. Her first full album in three years, it is a synthesis of her seven-plus releases, merging pianos and guitars, spiritual longing, and real-world sorrow. Mixing folk, pop and Americana sounds, the album features an all-star cast of players that includes Alan Sparhawk (Low), Adm Levy (The Honeydogs, Turn Turn Turn), Shannon Frid-Rubin (Cloud Cult), Molly Maher and Jeremy Ylvisaker.

Mary Bue’s music touches upon archetypal themes of the human condition: love, loss, triumph, dreams, and the natural world. A longtime student of yoga and psychology, Mary weaves sacred subject matter into her songs, seeking of deeper levels of consciousness, and deep concern for the environment mixed into her sometimes crass, real-world hue. She released The Majesty of Beasts in May 2017 which landed on 2017’s Best of Minnesota Music lists for the Minneapolis Star Tribune and #3 in the City Pages. Mary’s long-time support of PAVSA (Program for Aid to Victims of Sexual Assault) as well as the release of this EP was also recognized, honoring Mary with 2017 Community Ally of the Year.

Today Glide is excited to premiere Bue’s video for “The World is Your Lover,” a song that brings to mind the 90s alt-pop rock of acts like Liz Phair and Freedy Johnston. Bue is a real troubadour as she sings with cool passion about how we deal with the world. There is a breezy rock vibe to the song that makes it infectious, with Bue balancing an arrangement of piano, drums and guitar to create a song that carries an emotional power. The video also adds a pleasant visual to the music, following a free-spirited character as she wanders the world.

Bue describes the inspiration behind the song:

“The World is constantly offering us opportunities to learn, grow, let go, or be stuck. The World is Your Lover sings about it all. Contemplation or stagnancy, the grief of many failures, the freedom that rushes in when you throw up your hands. This video shows a merging, like a lover, with the fleeting beauty that surrounds us: flowing water and flowers, sun and wind, letting go and dancing.”
