SONG PREMIERE: Melissa Erin’s “Golden” Offers Wintry Calm Before The Political Storm

Nashville-based indie-folk artist Melissa Erin is getting ready to release a series of new singles, emblematic of her move to Music City, where she’s assembled a tribe of like-minded troubadours to embolden her already grounded and stirring folk acumen. Her songwriting partner and co-rambler, Phil Anthony, enlisted GRAMMY-winning recording engineer, Brandon Bell (The High Women, Blackberry Smoke, Earl Scruggs) to record the new tracks, who’s also known for working alongside producer Dave Cobb on records for John Prine, Robert Randolph, Dylan LeBlanc and Brent Cobb. The forthcoming singles were mastered by Eric Conn (Willie Nelson, The Wood Brothers) at Independent Mastering.

Recorded in quick succession at Bell’s The Cabin Studio in Nashville, Melissa Erin’s forthcoming singles, “Golden,” “Settle on Down” and “Whole Lotta Nothin’” utilize simple acoustic treatment, with no click, a couple of mics and a pop filter, and of course, an acoustic guitar. Pivoting from MOSA – her previous moniker – to an eponymous solo career as Melissa Erin (formally “Melissa Erin Frabotta”), there’s been a change of scenery: one that’s replete with reflection and strife, that has propelled a marked difference in the songwriter’s craft. With noticeably less distance between the artist and her art, it’s clear that she’s devoted to minimalism, unencumbered while making room for these watershed moments.

Erin offers comfort and clarity with her pitch-perfect vocals atop a vibrant minimalist soundscape recalling both present and past acoustic folk stalwarts. Glide is premiering “Golden” – a calm before the political storm, as Erin’s pacifying voice helps keep us balanced.

“‘Golden’ is about hanging on and pushing through to the other side. It’s about acknowledging the good in your life and being content with simple joys. It’s about harnessing everything that makes you stubborn and channeling it toward the tough times, all so you can get a step closer to finding out what you’re made of. And through all of that, knowing that even when it feels like it’s a solo fight, we’re all going through the motions together.” says Erin.
