Modern-day bluesman Marcus King took the late-night stage with Fallon on Wednesday (June 7) to perform a cut from his upcoming album. King performed “Hard Working Man” which is the first single off his second solo work Young Blood. King was joined by a full band and his signature rasp to put together an energetic performance for the blue collar workers.
Marcus King started as the charming frontman of The Marcus King Band, debuting in 2015 with Soul Insight. They followed up their southern blues sound with three more albums filled with Americana strumming patterns and tales from the countryside.
In 2020 Marcus King began his solo venture with the release of El Dorado on Fantasy Records. A mixture of square dance jams and melancholy love songs with a twang, El Dorado came out to great critical acclaim and earned King a Grammy nod. His latest work Young Blood is set to be released on August 26.
This performance was as southern as it gets, a man in a cowboy hat shredding on a guitar singing about an honest day’s work with a lively backing him. King’s energy is infectious, his stage presence is demanding and fun and can make anyone an instant fan.
King launches out on a large tour starting on June 23 in Europe before moving back over to the states for a string of dates to promote Young Blood.
