This weekend saw another exciting installment of Tennessee’s premier music festival Bonnaroo. The lineup for this year was packed with today’s biggest stars but one of the highlights of the weekend came from an unexpected source. Producer and Bleachers frontman Jack Antonoff led a jam session and brought up some very special guests to perform covers of hits from the year 1984.
With Antonoff and Bleachers backing all the guests, the likes of Japanese Breakfast, Goose’s Rick Mitarotonda, and Spoon’s Britt Daniel were some of the few who made an appearance during this 15-song set. Other guests include Claud, Carly Rae Jepsen, Lauren Mayberry, Joy Oladokun, Nicole Atkins, and Blue DeTiger all performing their favorite songs from 1984.
Mitarotonda performed two songs, covering Talk Talk’s “It’s My Life” and the classic “Take on Me” by a-ha. Daniel also came out to perform two songs, one being Bruce Springsteen’s “I’m Going Down” and the other being “The Killing Moon” by Echo & The Bunnymen. Carly Rae Jepsen socked fans twice with two big 80s MTV era hits via Cyndi Lauper’s “Time After Time” and Tina Turner’s “What’s Love Got To Do With It.”

It was like a bunch of indie stars decided to have an 80s karaoke night and it was AWESOME.
