The ever-interesting and unpredictable Pink Floyd frontman Roger Waters was in the steel city of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania last night (July 6) to kick off his “This Is Not A Drill” Tour at PPG Paints Arena. This string of dates will include some canceled shows from 2020 and has Waters going across North America.
Last night’s show was prefaced by a rehearsal set in University City, PA at the Bryce Jordan Center. The 15,000-capacity venue hosted the psychedelic rock pioneer for a dry run of the show he will be bringing on this tour. The setlist he performed at this show lines up with the songs he performed in Pittsburgh the following night, so that seems to be the definitive setlist for the remainder of the “This Is Not A Drill” tour.
The concert consisted of two sets, totaling up to a 23-song show that explores deep cuts and massive hits. Waters performed “The Powers That Be” from his solo album Radio K.A.O.S, the first time this track was played live since 1999. This time around Waters seems to be introducing more of his solo material into the set, performing songs like “Déjà Vu” and “Is This The Life We Really Want?”.
One of the big highlights of the evening was Waters’ performance of “The Bar”, an unreleased track that has only been previewed via social media last year.
The “This Is Not A Drill” Tour will march right along as Waters hits most of the major cities in North America. Waters will be in Toronto for two shows this weekend (July 8-9) before heading back to the states. The tour will wrap up in October in Mexico City, New Mexico. The band features Robert Walter this time around on organ, renowned for his tasty keyboard work in Greyboy Allstars and Mike Gordon Band. It’s not the first time a Greyboy Allstars member got a call to the big leagues, as Karl Denson joined the Rolling Stones in 2014 following the death of Bobby Keys.
