The politically charged rap-metal pioneers Rage Against The Machine have officially shipped off on their “Public Service Announcement” tour with the iconic rap duo Run The Jewels taking the opener slot. Last night (July 9), the innovative four-piece took the stage at the Alpine Valley Music Theater in East Troy, Wisconsin for a set fueled by resurgence. Last night marks the band’s first show in over a decade, their last show taking place on July 30, 2011 in Los Angeles, the band’s hometown.
Rage Against The Machine came storming into the music industry like they were shot out of a cannon. Their love for distorted power chords and culturally-conscious lyrics combine for a harmonious mixture of rock and rap. Since debuting in 1992, Rage has released a total of 4 albums and had its fair share of break ups and reunions. This year marks over two decades since the bands last official release together, 2000’s Renegades, but their short discography lives on through their fiery live performances.
Last night’s setlist also marked a couple comebacks. Rage performed songs like “Tire Me” and “Without a Face” for the first time since 2008 and also performed their version of Bruce Springsteen’s “The Ghost of Tom Joad” for the first time since it landed on their aforementioned Renegades album. Rage also took the opportunity to express their disgust with what has been happening in the U.S. since we last heard from them. Rallying cries like “Abort The Supreme Court” were flashed on the jumbotron behind the band, referencing the recent overturning of Roe V. Wade.
The “Public Service Announcement” Tour has Rage Against The Machine performing 51 shows in 12 countries across the world. Check out the full setlist, tour dates, and footage from last night’s show below.
