LISTEN: Anna Erhard Creates Scrappy Alt-Rock Winner On “Campsite”

Pack up the kids and the dog in the ol’ Country Squire Wagon and crank up the incredibly fun and quirky new single “Campsite” from Berlin-based singer/songwriter Anna Erhard. An endearingly dead-pan vocal delivery playfully describes all of the perfectly mundane components of a summer camping getaway set to an array of catchy synth lines and layered drum machines to create the perfect scrappy alternative to what one would usually expect a summer jam to be. Erhard’s full Campsite album is set for release September 9.

“Last year I spent a lot of time jamming with my producer Pola Roy in his studio. Campsite is based on a short loop that we cut out of one of those jams. One of my favorite elements is the messy tambourine in the background, I’m really no good at playing tambourine. Later on I recorded all the guitar noises and wrote the lyrics which are based on a daydream about my favorite campsite,” says Erhard.

“My family always went to the same campsite when I was kid, I had my gang there and felt like the queen of this little world. Most of the other people there spoke French which I didn’t understand, I actually thought that our neighbours name was “Bonjour Madame”, that’s what I have called her for years. Writing these lyrics and going back to these memories during lock-down was really fun and comforting at the same time. I’m looking forward to being an old lady who lives on a campsite one day.”
