As of now, hip-hop is more diverse than ever. So many amazing albums and new artists are gaining traction thanks to their immense talents and the newfound power social media has given to word-of-mouth marketing. While there are hundreds of new great albums uploaded to platforms like Bandcamp daily, the few that are special are giants amongst their contemporaries. Maxo’s Lil Big Man is one of those albums. Upon its release in 2019, it is Maxo’s first album through Def Jam and for his first project through a major, his sound was never compromised or tampered with, making Lil Big Man one of those giants.
The rollout for the anticipated begins today with Maxo’s new single “48” featuring a frequent collaborator and fellow unsung hero Pink Siifu, the single is also produced by the legendary beat maker/composer Madlib. “48” is a hell of a way to start the rollout for this album, which we now know will be titled Even God Has A Sense of Humor. The single features the two lyricists going verse-for-verse over a haunting soul sample and twangy guitar loops.
The new track is also accompanied by a dark music video. In the video, you can see Maxo standing on a street corner pleading for his cries to be heard around the world before his body completely disappears and all that’s left of him is his socks and shoes, and that’s all before the song actually starts. The rest of the video, completely in black and white, features shots of Maxo and Siifu rapping their verses along with cinematic shots that line up directly with the lyrics.
