This past weekend Pasadena, California was overtaken by some of the biggest stars in music. The “This Ain’t No Picnic” festival had one of the best lineups of the summer, acts like the Canadian house producer Kaytranada to the U.K. Slowthai all had unforgettable sets at this year’s event. Despite the county’s strict 11 p.m. curfew, the performances went off with no trouble at all and provided a fun, jam-filled weekend for the thousands who attended.
The festival included fiv-stages across a massive campground. Stages like “The 19th Hole” and “Despacio” were reserved for rave scenes while the rest of stages fluctuated between tempos and genres, providing performances for everyone at the festival.
Day one featured a slew of performances across the 5-stage event. The weekend opened up with performances by Tre’ Amani on the main stage and Hana Vu on what was deemed the “Greens” stage. After that the likes of Eyedress and Circle Jerks graced the Greens stage while Earl Sweatshirt and Mac Demarco occupied other stages across the massive grounds. The headliner for night one was LCD Soundsystem, who rushed through some of their greatest hits like “All My Friends” and “Dance Yrself Clean” to beat out the curfew.
Day Two brought more great performers with more of an edge compared to day one. Hardcore rockers like Idles and Turnstile performed on opposing stages while new stars like Paris Texas graced the same stages earlier in the day. Phoebe Bridgers took the stage for an electric performance just before the final headliner of the weekend, the legendary Strokes. The band ran through some of their biggest hits including “Ask Me Anything” which had not been performed since 2016.
