If ever an artist has had “doesn’t sound his age” add folk roots songwriter Stefan Prigmore to that list. With a ragged well-worn voice that mirrors that of troubadour legends Merle Haggard and Jerry Jeff Walker, Prigmore wins with powerful bravado.
His second full-length album is, Everything Is At Least Both is due out November 11th Titled metaphysically and curated progressively as Prigmore stretches and grows, the songs are a blend of old and new. Some are familiar songs in new arrangements that have never been recorded. Others are evocative of these times of constant change, and Prigmore’s skill in finding the solid foundation.
Stefan and producer/engineer Clay Parker continued to develop and strengthen their working relationship with this as their third project together. Prigmore and Parker found shared values, influences, and musical language to cowrite, arrange, and play together on several tracks. Clay Parker, himself a poignant songwriter, is at the heart of this album in many roles that complement Prigmore’s vision of a clean, simple, cohesive album with excellent quality and instrumentation. The standout talents of Pete Damore (Ordinary Elephant) on octave mandolin and mandolin and James McCann on steel guitar and resonator add depth, shine, jaunt, and mystery. Prigmore’s study in contrasts takes the whole group from spooky and murderous to playful and flirtatious, and even sometimes within the same song.
Glide is premiering the rebellious hoot of “Door Girl” where Prigmore makes good with a bygone twang courtesy of story-telling guitars and valiant vocals. Check out this stunner below that summons honky-tonk at its most modernly authentic recipe…
