With the first month of 2023 in the bag, February is already shaping up to outdo January with a slew of new releases slated for the month. New music from the Gorillaz and the return of Paramore are slated for release and if 2023 has taught us anything so far, it’s to expect the unexpected. This week saw a plethora of new singles album announcements across all genres and Glide has hand selected some of the best releases of the week.

Check out our picks for the best new music released in the final days of January and songs that ushered us into February.

Yves Tumor – Echolalia

Praise A Lord Who Chews but Which Does Not Consume (Or Simply: Hot Between Worlds

The multidimensional vocalist Yves Tumor is back with the announcement of his first new album in 3 years. Praise A Lord Who Chews but Which Does Not Consume (Or Simply: Hot Between Worlds is out March 17 via Warp Records and its latest single has an infectious groove as he pants over bouncy drums.

Yunè Pinku – Night Light

Single

With its easily danceable instrumental and sugary melodies, the latest single from the vocalist is strictly for high volumes and crowded dance floors. The cascading synths allow the song to feel like it’s moving all on its own as Yunè Pink glides over its complex textures.

GEL – Attainable

Only Constant

After picking up plenty of steam with their 2021 EP, Violent Closure, the band is looking to continue their hot streak with the announcement of their debut album. Only Constant is due March 31 and its first single is an onslaught of crunchy drums and throat-scratching vocals. “Attainable” is a ticking time bomb waiting for you to press play and get knocked back 30-feet by its hectic tempos.

Caroline Polachek – Blood And Butter

Desire, I Want To Turn Into You

With her brand new album right around the corner, Caroline Polachek gives us one last sneak peek into what is shaping up to be her best project to date. Desire, I Want To Turn Into You is set to be released February 14 and its latest single, “Blood And Butter” has the vocalist experimenting with structure. A steady drum pattern gives this track consistency as the rest of the arrangement goes from sweet acoustic riffs to a bagpipe-sounding instrument taking over the melody towards the end of the new single.

Pearl & The Oysters – Konami

Single

The French-born, Florida-based duo of Pearl & The Oysters use their keen sense of melody to craft dreamscapes that transport you under a hot summer sun. “Konami” is their latest exploration into fearless, shapeshifting instrumentals that melt together to create lush textures and redefine what pop music is meant to sound like.

Rarelyalways – URGENT

WORK

The U.K’s latest hip-hop offering is ready to introduce himself to the world and he is doing it in a way that will never allow you to forget the name Rarelyalways. His debut album, WORK, is set to release March 10 via Innovative Leisure and the latest single from his debut shows the artist’s forward-thinking approach to songwriting. Allowing the instrumental to do just as much work as his vocals gives the song an interesting structure as he uses vocal samples and horns to fill the atmosphere when his cut-throat verses need a rest.

Westerman – CSI: Petralona

An Inbuilt Fault

Westerman is gearing up to release his first album since 2020’s Your Hero Is Not Dead and if this latest single gives us any hint as to what to expect from his new album, we’re in for a real treat. An Inbuilt Fault is set for release on May 5 and its latest single has Westerman experimenting with folk tropes as his guitar plucking is met with layered melodies and a diluted synth line to add a unique texture to the whole song.

@ – Letters

Mind Palace Music

The latest signing to Carpark Records is readying their debut album and with each single, the excitement builds. The album will be released February 17 via their new label and its third single is already one of the most unforgettable songs of the year. “Letters” features sinfully sweet harmonies that are joined by dream-like guitar plucking to give this track a free-falling sort of atmosphere.

Young Fathers – Shoot Me Down

Heavy Heavy

The new album from the industrial hip-hop group Young Fathers has finally arrived and it is bursting with vibrant colors and harsh instrumentation. Harsh in the best way possible, “Shoot Me Down” is a stand-out from the album with its intro consisting of chopped up vocal samples that transition into a melody that refuses to stay complacent.
