GRAMMY Award-winning musician and scholar Dom Flemons’ new version of Bob Dylan’s “Guess I’m Doing Fine,” featuring special guest Sam Bush, has been released. Check out the spirited version where Flemons continues to push the boundaries of progressive roots music.
Of the song, Flemons, also known as “The American Songster,” shares, “The song’s powerful lyrics about resilience in the face of insurmountable odds have resonated with me since I first heard it on CD 20 years ago. After cutting ‘Guess I’m Doing Fine,’ I realized that it would be cool to add a fiddle part to pull out the strains of bluegrass that I found in the song’s structure. I am so fortunate and grateful that my friend Sam Bush was available to add his fiddle to this lively track and bring some of that old-timey flavor to it.”
“Guess I’m Doing Fine” is the second track unveiled from Flemons’ anticipated new album, Traveling Wildfire, which will be released March 24 on Smithsonian Folkways Recordings (pre-order here). Produced by Ted Hutt (Old Crow Medicine Show, Lucero) and recorded at Los Angeles’ Kingsize Soundlabs, Traveling Wildfire is Flemons’ most personal album to-date as he refocuses on songwriting—reflecting on his recent epiphanies and spiritual evolution as well as on the current social climate.
