Contrary to what one might believe, TV shows – like everything else in this world – do not have an unlimited lifespan, sooner or later they have to end. It is an inevitable fact, just like the sunrise in the morning.
Over the years, we invariably see the spread of articles and ambiguous news about the return of a certain show or series, which may have been over for years, but is still being talked about thanks to social media and the power of the net, which continues to convey people’s emotions and impressions constantly, relentlessly, even when it concerns a show that ended years ago and has no hope of returning to the scene.
This fact is not surprising considering the exceptional power of social networks. In addition to being able to spread strong ideas for marketing and communication, social media also manage to keep alive feelings, collective hopes, as if they were true amplifiers of human emotions.
How many of us, over the past ten or fifteen years, have not come across online content about the return of a TV series, perhaps through an additional season or a reboot, or with a film version explaining once and for all the mysteries unsolved during the course of the show?
Think for instance of a TV series like Lost, which ended in 2010 with the final episode of the sixth season. Since then, with truly astonishing regularity, websites and blogs have begun to revive rumors and rumors about the imminent start of filming for a new season, or the possibility of making some sort of concluding film that would answer all the questions left unanswered during the course of the show.
Rumors
Some even think that these sites have artfully crafted these articles only to increase traffic to their pages, or to create online content to answer a question or doubt (or a vain hope) expressed by many people via the net.
But the fact that some people harbor a hope, which is perfectly legitimate, certainly does not authorise any website to create content that is essentially empty and devoid of real news, aimed only at attracting a certain category of users in order to achieve a certain level of views and visits to internal pages.
Usually, this content does not give rise to any following, and for an extremely simple, almost banal reason. In most cases, the idea of prolonging the life of a TV series or a show that has already been finished for years is absolutely abysmal, and would not lead to anything good, quite the contrary.
A great success
There has also often been talk about the return of The Office, a famous US TV series that aired for nine seasons until 2013, the year in which the show ended for good. To make a tenth series, perhaps with the same characters, would risk ruining everything and also tarnishing the reputation of the original TV series.
The absence from the office of two key characters such as Pam and Jim (who at the end of the ninth season decide to leave Scranton to pursue their dreams) would create serious difficulties, and Dwight Schrute’s role as a regional manager would certainly generate less interest than during the period in which the skilled salesman was a simple (and hilarious) assistant to the boss. For all these reasons, but also for a simple reason of common sense, the return of this series should be avoided by all means.
Forms of television entertainment thus have a predetermined duration and are always destined to end. But there are also other forms of deferment that, by virtue of their very nature, and because they do not depend on any previously concocted story, can continue to be enjoyed and enjoyed indefinitely, in a convenient and extremely safe manner.
One of these is undoubtedly represented by the world of online gambling and entertainment, which over the years has managed to give rise to increasingly advanced forms of entertainment, increasingly customized and tailored to the player, who within these portals can find a wide variety of online casino games, such as different varieties of slots that can be enjoyed for free by using online casino free spins bonuses, with the certainty of always finding the experience best suited to his or her personal needs. A characteristic of this form of entertainment, unlike films and TV series, is its repeatability, i.e. the possibility of replaying it whenever you want, from anywhere and at any time, even thanks to your mobile phone or tablet.
‘Sometimes they come back’, someone used to say. In the case of TV series, in most cases, they should not come back at all.
